“Great condo on Big Island”
This is a great option for several couples traveling together. The Islands of Mauna Lani in the Mauna Lani Resort complex offers upscale condos with lots of privacy, all on a beautiful golf course and in a gated area. The pool is within walking distance of all condos. You will need a car for transportation because the resort is big and the beach and golf clubhouse are a few miles away. Each bedroom is set up with huge private bathrooms. Maid service is included daily.
While there, don’t miss making reservations at Brown’s Restaurant at the Orchid Fairmont on the Mauna Lani Resort. The best sunset on the Big Island and wonderful food. Ask to be seated at one of Fred’s tables. This waiter is a wealth of information about the island and offers wonder service.
Come to the northern tip of the Big Island to honor the legendary Hawaiian king in his North Kohala birthplace.
Kamehameha I, also known as Kamehameha the Great, conquered the Hawaiian Islands and formally established the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810. Kamehameha preserved Hawaii’s independence under his rule by developing alliances with the major Pacific colonial powers.
Join us June 11, 2010 for a day long cultural festival with floral parade, ceremony draping the King’s statue in lei, hula, food booths and musical performances mark this special day. 8 a.m – 4 p.m. in Kapaau and Hawi.

“Wonderful base for our vacation”
Personally, I love staying here. The point is on a golf course and only minutes from the beach. Access to the beach is either a 5 minute drive or a lovely 10-15 minute walk along a very rocky trail but alongside the crashing ocean makes for an idyllic setting. During this particular stay, we saw whales just offshore almost every day including one day where I was fortunate enough to videotape a breaching whale.
The unit I stayed in was very spacious with an excellent deck for having breakfast and coffee before our activities for the day. The pool is very quiet and although not very big, was very relaxing. There are three barbeque’s just outside the pool which were clean and very convenient. There is a rocky beach that also serves as the backdrop for the signature hole on the golf course. This is a good area to snorkel and see turtles on the beach.
The airport is approximately 30 minutes away and Kailua-Kona another 5-10 minutes. We did our grocery shopping at a number of different places in Kona but Waikaloa also has a grocery store and is about 10 minutes away.
Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea Beach and a number of other beaches are all within a 15 minute drive. Hilo is a couple of hours away and Volcano National Park is about 3-4 hours away.
All in all, I think the resort is great. I haven’t stayed at other places on the Kohala Coast so I can’t say if it is worth the money but I personally will come back as often as I can afford to.
