If you love the sound of the ocean, the feel of crisp air, the smell of fresh cut grass, and a scorecard that you will always remember, come to Hawaii! We promise that you will remember Mauna Kea Golf Course (just up the road from our resort) not only for your low score, but for the raw beauty of the natural course. At the site of what would become the third hole, Robert Trent Jones (the designer of the course) famously implored: “Mr. Rockefeller, if you allow me to build a golf course here, this’ll be the most beautiful hole in the world.” Years later, the course has won multiple awards, including the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play, “and “75 Best Golf Resorts in North America.” Players of all ages and experience levels have played this challenging course. Of course, the difficulty partially lies with focus. It’s nearly impossible to keep your eye on the ball and not on the magnificence views. On the front nine, look out for the par-3 hole. Its cliff-side tee across the bay and several bunkers make it a challenge for several players. This section is still one of the most well-known holes across Hawaii. Mauna Kea Golf Course doesn’t only offer breath taking views, but a driving range, practice putting greens, locker room, shower facilities, full-service pro shop and “Number 3” Clubhouse restaurant. The pro shop was designed for state-of-the-art golf equipment, latest attire, logo gifts, and other golf items. After a long day of golfing don’t forget to stop by the “Number 3” restaurant to cool down with a cold beer or split a gourmet pizza; you might even do better on the back nine. So if you’re heading out to the big island don’t forget your golf clubs to enjoy a scorecard you’ll never forget.
