Air Fare Update – Hawaiian Expanding Flights to Hawaii

Hawaiian Airlines has announced the expansion of its Bay Area service to Maui with the company’s first-ever nonstop flights from San Jose, three days weekly, starting January 2012.  The new flight also gives Bay Area travelers more easy connections to Kona on Hawaii Island.  In conjunction with its special introductory fare (see below), Hawaiian is offering travelers bound for Kona the convenience and cost-saving option of flying to Kona via Maui at no extra charge.

Hawaiian’s senior vice president of marketing and sales, Glenn Taniguchi, noted “We know how popular Maui is for South Bay residents so our new nonstop service from San José will let them make the most of their vacation, while relaxing with the best, most enjoyable inflight experience offered to Hawaii.  Our special low introductory fares make this a particularly good time to save money and plan that winter vacation to Maui.”

San José – Maui Schedule

Starting January 10, 2012, flights will depart San José on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 8:10 a.m. and arrive at Maui at 11:45 a.m.  Departing Maui’s Kahului Airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 1:25 p.m. and arriving at Mineta San José International Airport at 8:25 p.m.

Special Introductory Fares

To celebrate the launch of its San José – Maui service, Hawaiian is offering a special introductory roundtrip fare of $298.40 (plus applicable fees) for travel between January 10 and March 14, 2012.  Tickets must be purchased by September 14, 2011.

AirCanada & WestJet Restarting Nonstop Service From Vancouver To Kona In December

AirCanada and WestJet will restart weekly nonstop service between Vancouver and Kona on the Big Island in December in time for the winter travel season.

Weekly flights will depart every Saturday from Vancouver at 3:50 p.m. and arrive in Kona at 8:00 p.m.  Return flights will depart Kona at 9:20 p.m. on Saturdays and arrive in Vancouver at 5:00 a.m. the next day.  Air Canada will fly the route from Dec. 11, 2010 to April 30, 2011.

WestJet will fly every Thursday and Sunday, departing Vancouver at 6:10 p.m. and arriving in Kona at 10:35 p.m. on the same day.  Return flights will depart Kona at 11:35 p.m. and arrive in Vancouver at 7:15 a.m. the next day. WestJet will fly the route from Dec. 2, 2010 through April 28, 2010.

Hawaiian Airlines Now Selling Tokyo to Hawaii

Hawaiian Airlines is now selling tickets for its daily nonstop flights between Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Honolulu, which will begin in November.

It will make its inaugural flight from Honolulu to Haneda on November 17, 2010 and its inaugural departure from Haneda to Honolulu on November 19, 2010.

Alaska Airlines Announces Seasonal Flights

Alaska Airlines announced it will begin seasonal flying between Kona on the Big Island and Portland, Oregon four times a week starting November 12, 2010 and will add a second flight between Kona and Seattle, which will operate three times a week from November 11, 2010 to April 10, 2011.

Alaska Airlines scheduled more than a dozen routes to Hawaii from Anchorage and West Coast cities including Seattle and San Jose, California, in the past two-and-a-half years.
